Hab heute ein bisschen mit der Profi-Übersetzersoftware von Babelfish experimentiert. Den folgenden Auszug fand ich dabei doch sehr belustigend:

Daß der Babelfish immer für einen netten Joke gut ist, ist wohl allgemein bekannt...

Daß er für Übersetzungen nicht bis gar nicht tauglich ist, allerdings auch.

Und der Begriff "Profi-Übersetzersoftware" ist mir im Zusammenhang mit diesem Teil noch nie begegnet!

Einigermassen ist der Langenscheidt Translator (weiss aber grad nicht, was der kostet)

Die Woerter sind richtig uebersetzt aber die Grammatik ist total Falsch.
Habe zwar den Langenscheidt Translator noch nicht gesehen aber die ganzen uebersetzer haben all mit der Grammatik schwierigkeiten.Versuchte es mal mit einem von Englisch ins Deutsch hatte 2 tage bauchschmerzen von later Lachen uber die Satzstellung!

thanks a lot for mailing, that you´ve had also your serious problems with this B.S. translating machines, even if you´re a bilingual guy. The only skilled translating machines I know, are that ones with two legs! Most of time you can meet them in conference rooms.
On the other hand, Babylon I can recommend to translating single words or expressions.

Well it was actually meant to be a joke for all readers here. I could have translated it perfectly myself but since I came across Babelfish on the altavista website I decided to put it in a test against the Langenscheidt T1 which I usually use to translate legal documents. I would never consider using babelfish for anything else than amusement. Except once when I had a conversation with an italian chick (and I am barely fluent) and for two hours I used cut&paste to chat with her...

I'll post a translation with T1 here later today...

You are absolutely correct about the dictating machines on two beautifully formed legs, and a short skirt. All kidding aside, these software programs are only good for translating single phrases, or single words. I did only try it once and I returned the program the next day. I don't even recall the name of it. But needless to say, I have noticed when I was in Germany, that a lot of young people speak a pretty good English. So have a nice day and thanks for communicating in English. If I will do any more postings on this Web site, I will use German, because I have to practice it!

Wo findet man diesen Langenscheidt-Übersetzer?
Babelfish taugt zwar hin und wieder etwas, wenn man ein einzelnes Wort wissen will, ist aber bei technischen Fachbegriffen total überfordert. Und dämlicherweise wird Fachliteratur immer "englischer" :-(

Bei http://www.babylon.com könnt ihr euch die einfache Übersetzungshilfe von English in ziemlich viele andere Sprachen downloaden. Ich hab´s mir so eingestellt, dass ich mit dem Cursor über das Wort fahre und dann mit Strg und rechter Maustaste Babylon, nicht Babelfish! herhole. Ist manchmal ganz gut wenn man im "spelling" nicht ganz sicher ist, oder weitere Bedeutungen sucht. Die Anwendung kostet nichts.
