Hi,

Because I don't speak German this text is in English. I bought a Valentine One in Germany to use it in the Netherlands. The main difference between Germany and The Netherlands is that in the Netherlands radar is always facing away, which makes is more difficult to detect.
Unfortunately detection range of the V1 on the multanova 6F when radar is facing away is less than 50m!! (while the BEL 966 has a detection range of more than 250m!)

Anyone suggestions on how to improve the detection range??

Mike,
The Netherlands

Hi Mike, I thing you get another problem next time: Valentine One doesn´t detect Ku- Band!
You should better take Bel 990i or 980 with Ku- Band programmed, it is possible with Flashrom.

Dear Barry,

I know the V1 doesn't detect the Ku band. Note that the Ku band is not used any more. (99.5% is multanova, gatso, only 0,5% is ku band)

However how is it possible that All german tests say the V1 has a detection range of about 400m on the Multanova?? Even when radar is facing me detection range is only 100m!!

I think your Valentine is programmed with alert (alarm) delay from 3 or 6 second. You must programming the Valentine new. What's the serial number?

I think the alert time is not important for Multanova cause the Alert time is only changing the K Band delay an not the KA Band delay.
Multanova is on KA Band.
So we see, that the problem is much more difficult.
Could it be that we have an instant on Multanova ?
So the range is not long enough.

Another trick would be to change the sensivity in the Programming mode.
In the V 1 Programmimg mode it is posiible to increase this KA Band sensitivity (look at Valentines Home page).

Mike if the KA Band sensitivity increas will help you please answer, because this would be verry interesting.

best regards

Joe is absolutely right.
Take a look at www.valentine1.com -> ask mike -> tech reports -> report5.

You should try to switch off the Ka-Band signal interpretation (item 6 in the programming).

Its hard to believe, that the V1 makes 50m and the BEL966 250m detection range.

You don't use the V1 behind a heated windshield, while the BEL 966 is behind the grill?
Did you compare the 2 devices at the same speedtrap? There are many influences that can affect the detection range: Can you get reflected signals from cars or buildings in front of you? Was the transmitted power of the Multanova the same, since they can select low power for only 1 lane or higher power for measurements of more lanes of the road?

greetings from germany

About which BEL 966 you are talking about? The portable one of 1992 or the Netherlands-Remote-Model?

You should contact the company which sold the unit in the first place.

Radarfuzzi you are wrong !
When you change the False Alarm Guard !!! (Item 6)a horrible peeping will be the follow.
Cause the False alarm guard is fo all bands X K and KA. you will habe al lot more false K Band alerts,
But the solution is: to change the KA Band signal response (Item 5 in the programming mode) to "more responsive" !!!

So we have cleared the problem finally.

Hi,

- My car hasn't got heated windshields.
- I tried the V1 several times on different Multanova's: detection range always less than 100m, while detection range of the 966 (remote detector) was always at least 200m on the same Multanova's.
- Ofcourse I tried the V1 with Ka falsing guard turned off => this results in far too many false alarms (at least 5 times a minute)
- Ka signal response was already switched to "More responsive"
- Software version of my V1: 2.909
- A friend of mine has the same problems with his V1.

I think the problem is that the V1 has to scan everything between 33.4- 36 GHz. The 966 only scans for the 34.3 GHz, this is the frequency the Multanova works on.

The BEL990 also has a good detection range on the Multanova, this because of it's Ka-narrow feature.

Anyone any suggestions??

Item 5 in the programming mode) to "more responsive" is a basic programming mode in Germany. Who is the dealer?

P&P da stehen doch 2 sätze zu punkt 5. Da steht doch klar und deutlich "V1 radar and laser sensivity will not be changed".
also nur die Anzeige steigt schneller an. ka alarm kommt deshalb nicht früher.

By Mike (212.48.56.132) on Donnerstag, den 2. November, 2000 - 19:40:

I programmed my V1 as follows: (software: 2.909)

1. X-band off
2. K-band on
3. Ka-band on
4. Laser on
5. More responsive
6. Guard on
7. Feautures b thru g inactive
8. Factory setting
A. Factory setting
b. Factory setting
C. Factory setting
d. Factory setting
E. Factory setting
F. Factory setting
G. Factory setting
H. Factory setting

- Anyone any idea how to improve performance on the Multanova?
- Does anybody know if the V1 has some hidden features??
